Art is freedom. However, if a project requires many artists to work on, then you will need guidance, boundaries and direction. Otherwise, artistic freedom will result in chaos. A lead has to pave the way for a swift production. All artists should have the same vision in their heads, so they can work consistently without any frustration.
The audience demands a spectacular bedazzlement and an emotional joyride. New creative ideas and innovative concepts have to be conceived and visually defined. Concept artists create the first images and help to explore or to present different ideas.
Once, the vision is set the production is at hand. A careful plan requires foresight and a lot of experience. Artists need time to bring new ideas to life. Experts have to develop new workflows and techniques. Supervision, communication, milestones, feedback, constructive criticism, and guidance are necessary to prevent a chaotic production. How well a team worked together can be judged by the final outcome.
Very often, I find myself in a directing role. Supervising, conceiving or communicating these new ideas on a global scale is easy for me. To know, what is new in art and technology is mandatory for me. I'm familiar with the details, workflows and creation processes in a production, due to many years of practical experience. Before any kind of production takes place, I can easily foresee problems and small details, which could endanger the development. Thinking things through at the beginning is my biggest strength.
